General comments
Bij patiënten met een ongecompliceerd beloop van de klachten is antimicrobiële therapie niet geïndiceerd.
Overweeg antimicrobiële therapie bij patiënten met een (verhoogd risico op een) afwijkend beloop: bij verminderde afweer, koorts > 5 dagen of opnieuw koorts na een aantal koortsvrije dagen.
Indien na 2 dagen geen verbetering en een antibioticum wel geïndiceerd is: vervang amoxicilline door doxycycline (of bij contra-indicatie doxycycline door amoxicilline/clavulaanzuur po 875/125mg 3dd) of vervang doxycycline door cotrimoxazol.
