Indications: primaire profylaxe bij HIV patiënten met positieve T. gondii-serologie én CD4<100/mm3

Priority: 1st choice	Medication: cotrimoxazol (trimethoprim + sulfamethoxazol) po 480mg 1dd
Priority: 2nd choice	Medication: dapsone po 50mg 1dd + pyrimethamine po 50mg 1pw + folinezuur po 25mg 1pw	Remarks: Voorafgaand aan gebruik dapson G6PD deficiëntie uitsluiten vanwege risico op hemolytische anemie
Priority: 2nd choice alternative	Medication: atovaquon po 1500mg 1dd	Remarks: Atovaquon is uitsluitend beschikbaar als suspensie

General comments

Primaire profylaxe staken bij CD4>200/mm3 gedurende een periode van >3 maanden; primaire profylaxe opnieuw herstarten wanneer CD4<100-200/mm3.
Voor secundaire profylaxe (= 'chronic maintenance therapy', gericht op het voorkomen van reactivatie van een latente infectie na behandeling van de actieve infectie) zie Toxoplasmosis cerebri (Toxoplasma gondii).
